Andrew Z. Wang, M.D., is the A. Kenneth Pye Professor in Cancer Research and the Vice Chair for Translational Research and Commercialization in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and a member of the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Wang earned two Bachelor of Science degrees in Biochemistry and Biology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Indiana University with highest distinction. He obtained his medical degree from the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology (HST) program at Harvard Medical School. After an internship in internal medicine at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in New York, he completed clinical training in radiation oncology in the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program. During residency, he also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts Institutes of Technology under the mentorship of Dr. Robert Langer. Following residency, Dr. Wang joined the faculty of University of North Carolina as Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology in 2009, where he rose to the rank of Tenured Professor before joining UTSW faculty in 2021. Dr. Wang’s research program is focused on the application of biomedical engineering to cancer research with the goal of developing novel cancer diagnostics and therapeutics to improve cancer treatment. His work is high impact and highly innovative and has resulted in 38 patents/patent applications and three biotechnology startup companies. His work has been published in high impact journals such as Nature Nanotechnology, Advanced Materials, and Nature Biotechnology. Dr. Wang is an elected member of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) College of Fellows and the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI).
