I am currently working at the Medical Oncology Department of Hospital Universitario Marques de Valdecilla in Santander,Spain where I lead the GU oncology section. Also I am highly involved in promoting clinical and translational research in the department through the direction of the clinical research unit.
I earned my M.D. in 1997 at the Universidad de Salamanca (Spain) and my Ph.D. in 2005 at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid (Spain), with highest commendation. I completed my training in Medical Oncology at the Hospital Universitario Son Dureta in Palma de Mallorca (Spain) and then a Fellowship in Drug Development and Genitourinary Oncology at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Canada between 2004-2007. Along with my clinical training in Canada I finalized a two-year Master Program in Teaching Medicine at the University of Toronto.
Upon my return to Europe in 2007 I completed a program in Management Skills at SDA Bocconi School of Management at Milan, Italy.
Throughout out my career my major responsibilities have consisted of developing GU oncology programs with a new patient oriented philosophy, promoting a full multidisciplinary approach and promoting clinical research.I have been actively involved in coordinating teaching programs and my responsibilities have also extended to team building and management.
I have authored numerous publications in scientific journals and received some awards such as the ASCO Foundation Merit Award and the University Health Network Outstanding Research Presentation Award.
I am a member of ASCO, ESMO, EAU, ASEICA, EACR and SEOM and a co-founder and current president of the GU cooperative group GO NORTE (https://gonorteoncologia.com/).
Overall my major interests are clinical and translational research in the area of genitourinary oncology along with early drug development and education in medicine.
